For NaNoWriMo this year I’m working on several projects. (This is happening as often as my health allows. My word count is only of the words that have been typed in by my dutiful assistant as I pass them along between treatments.) The largest project- the one I’ve been working on for two years- is what I’ll pass along here.
Quick notes to clarify what you’re about to read:
- This is a high fantasy story.
- Alison has an albino-like skin condition. She loathes this.
- She’s preparing to head to the ceremony that will dictate her future.
I’m tiny beside his huge, muscular frame. There’s centaur in his bloodline. His blacker shade of skin, that I’m unsure of the cause. It must be nice to worry less about burns from the light.
“What has you upset, Sweet Girl?” he asks as he leads me down the first flight of stairs.
“I’m worried if my dad is okay. He’s supposed to be here. I don’t know how I’ll find the courage to walk out the front door,” I bite down on my lip.
“You have never been short on courage, Alison.”
Standing two stairs higher, I hug him. He smells like sweat and oats. “How few choices do I have left?
