birthday-cake
Welcome to the day I claim as my birthday! Oh look, it’s a list with a link to presents I’d enjoy.
Ha ha ha
In truth, I’m donating my birthday this year.

Birthday celebrating reader, writer, author interviewer. #InSixWords

My goals for Bout of Books 20 are not just to read a lot of books (I’m hoping to read and review at least 5), but also to connect! So if you’re taking part as well, or if you love to read and have some social media accounts, let me know!

Down The TBR hole meme

During the #GetSocial17 hop, I found a blog (thanks Amy of bursting with books) participating in Lia’s “Down the TBR Hole” meme.
From the Lost in a Story blog:

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well, that’s going to change!

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Going through your tbr one-by-one makes you more aware of what’s on there. (Get excited again for books you forgot about.)

I’m going to combine this chore/ activity with the books on my Amazon Wishlist as well as my Goodreads TBR. I read an average of 50 books a year. Currently, it would take me about 6 years to read all the books on my Amazon wishlist of books and 17 years to get through my Goodreads TBR. That’s just not realistic, especially since there are bound to be new books I’ll also want to read!

Wanting to read a book and wanting to buy a book aren’t necessarily the same (which is one reason we have libraries). That’s why I’m judging each of these books for both my Amazon and Goodreads lists.

Loop
by Karen Akins
Item added October 28, 2014

Sounds like Harry Potter but with time travel instead of magic.

Judgement 1:

The Collector Witch (Heart of the Staff Book 2)
by Carol Marrs Phipps, Tom Phipps
Item added November 5, 2014

I purchased book 1 on November 2, 2014. Until I get around to reading and reviewing that, there’s no point to this being on my list.

Judgement 2:

AWL: Removed | Goodreads TBR: (wasn’t there)

Model Position (An Art of Love Novel Book 1)
by Kitsy Clare
Item added November 10, 2014

Sienna is an artist in the Manhattan art scene.
Dave Hightower is a hooked-up, handsome heir to the hippest gallery in NYC, Gallery Hightower.
Erik is the live drawing model with his sizzling green eyes fixed only on Sienna.

There’s a little bit about the description which reminds me of Fractions of Existence. (There is a scene in an art gallery in Manhattan.) That’s what drew me in. But 77 pages for $1.99 (Price dropped 33% — was $2.99). That’s .03 cents a page (was .04 cents a page). I’ve marked it as lowest priority.

NEW RULE… 99 cents (US) for every 100 pages. That’s how pricing should be done for ebooks. Lower, okay. But higher? No. That’s just how I feel. The only exception being for books that raise money for charity.

Judgement 3:

AWL: Kept | Goodreads TBR: Kept

The Red Knight (The Traitor Son Cycle Book 1)
by Miles Cameron
Item added November 11, 2014

one of the most acclaimed fantasy debuts of 2012

I do enjoy high fantasty, and that’s clearly why I added this book.

Judgement 4:

AWL: Kept | Goodreads TBR: Added

Midnight Action: A Killer Instincts Novel
by Elle Kennedy
Item added November 16, 2014

Why do I have book 5 of an action romance on my list? I don’t know.

Judgement 5:

AWL: Removed | Goodreads TBR: (wasn’t there)

Made for You
by Melissa Marr
Item added November 17, 2014

The Kindle price is $6.49. The paperback is only $4.22.

It sounds like a less interesting version of “The Dead Zone.” I’m sure it’s good for what it is, but I’ve lost interest.

Judgement 6:

AWL: Removed | Goodreads TBR: (wasn’t there)

A Thousand Pieces of You
by Claudia Gray
Item added November 17, 2014

Not to judge a book by the cover but OMG I LOVE THIS COVER. #GeekingOut

And soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is far more sinister than she expected.
A Thousand Pieces of You explores an amazingly intricate multi-universe where fate is unavoidable, the truth elusive, and love the greatest mystery of all.

Yup, I’m in!

Judgement 7:

AWL: Kept | Goodreads TBR: Added

The Edge of Always
by J.A Redmerski
Item added November 18, 2014

Yet another sequel book… haven’t read the first.

Judgement 8:

AWL: Removed | Goodreads TBR: (wasn’t there)

The Miseducation of Cameron Post
by emily m. danforth
Item added November 19, 2014

gay, orphan, conversion camp, provocative literary debut … yup, this book is a keeper

Judgement 9:

AWL: Kept | Goodreads TBR: Added

control (Control Duology)
by Lydia Kang
Item added November 19, 2014

about the human genetic “mistakes” that society wants to forget, and the way that outcasts can turn out to be heroes

Judgement 10:

AWL: Kept | Goodreads TBR: Kept
