Focus First to Fulfill Goals #GotGoalsBlogHop

Got Goals Bloghop

I’m the “token guy” (wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokenism) in several online communities. That’s true offline as well. The majority of my friends have always been female. One big difference? In the online world, most people don’t know what gender someone is. The drawback to people not knowing? When someone calls me Jenni.

“J” isn’t short for anything. “Lenni” is as in the Lenni-Lenape, my tribe, the Native Americans who are most famous in “white history” for selling Manhattan island and dealing with the land swindle Walking Purchase.

Putting J and Lenni together is just a visual error, and apparently doesn’t give people pause because they know a lot of guys named Jenni or they mentally presume my gender is female because I’m friends with a lot of women.

Maybe there’s a short story hidden in there somewhere. What do you think?

During my NaNoProMo July catch-up, I sought several urban fantasy book review bloggers. There are four I’ll contact after reading certain books they reviewed which are on my TBR. As such, reading these three books are a separate goal.

  • Inhale by Kendall Grey
  • Envisioned by Nikki Sparxx
  • The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky

Also, thanks to NaNoProMo, there’s a new section on my goal list. Topic goals.

  1. Ha, ha, yes I think there is! I’m sometimes called Lexi myself, because of my social media. Nope, my first name isn’t even close to Lexi, and will be obvious when you see my blog is called JEN’s Lexical Creations.
    Find on Twitter:

    1. Oddly, I never thought of lexical as being mistaken for the name Lexi. Then again, there are a few people with nouns for names, like Apple and Blanket. It’s all fascinating.
      Find on Twitter:

  2. I don’t usually have problems with my name, although I do know there was an actor named Jan Michael Vincent years ago so if I used the nickname Jan it might have happened. I love/hate reading your updates because you seem to get so much more accomplished than I do! I checked out the Blog All About It challenge and may try that and thanks for reminding me about the A to Z road trip. I’ve been trying to get to that at least once a month as well. Carry on Mr. Dorner!

    1. Thanks! And happy road-tripping.

On my side, people assume I’m male and German because of my name. I’m neither. That said, I find that much less upsetting than the fact that my name autocorrects to “mishap.” 😛
    Find on Twitter:

    1. I imagine Supernatural’s Misha Collins popularity is contributing to that gender confusion.
Tell them that Ashley in Gone with the Wind is a guy, watch as heads explode. 😉

  3. I think at least in the romance world/romance blogging most are just assumed female unless it’s obvious because that’s just what the vast majority of us are. *shrugs*

Good luck with your goals! I always like the live 37 years more one 😉

    Happy writing!
