#IWSG Favorite Genre to Write #SpecFic #SFF

June 5 question: Of all the genres you read and write, which is your favorite to write in and why?

My favorite genre to write is Speculative Fiction.

Speculative Fiction Diagram

“Speculative fiction is an umbrella genre encompassing fiction with certain elements that do not exist in the real world, often in the context of supernatural, futuristic or other imaginative themes.” Wikipedia

“Today, speculative fiction serves as an umbrella under which are gathered not only science fiction, but also fantasy, horror, magic realism, alternate history, various -punks, weird fiction, and superhero fiction.” – diymfa.com

I love writing this because it allows for world building and fun possibilities.

  1. Speculative Fiction is my favorite too.

  2. Intriguing Venn diagram that gets me thinking how genres overlap.

I may lean towards mystery/crime but I have a speculative fiction saga in my unpublished drafts. And it has SF and fantasy elements. No historical – but alternative history: is that speculative? I can tick that genre as attempted and marinading.

    1. It sounds like it could be Spec Fic. It’s a pretty big umbrella.
